At Worlds End

Big day today! We had a scavenger hunt in Edinburgh today. I think we saw the city 10 times around, and I promise you it will be a lot more by the time I leave. After the group took the bus into town (by ourselves we have officially graduated), we went off in search of the train station to gather information to bring back like good scavenger hunters shall. Then we went to see the Scottish Monument. It was pretty cool, really pretty. I have some picture that where in the shots uploaded yesterday, there are some closer up ones that will go up later today or tomorrow.
Bag pipers were everywh
er, as should be expected. I also saw a little girl doing tradition dancing around a sword and a contact juggler. I have video of the little girl and the bag piper, I am going to try to upload them to facebook sometime soon. But I make no promises.
We went into the National Gallery of Scotland while in town today, it is actually a shame that I could not take any pictures and at the same time not so much, pictures wouldn’t do the paintings any justice.
Probably one of my favorite places we passed today was a placed call Frankenstein’s. I have like 10 pictures, but it looked to be a blast. More importantly, or at least more interesting, for you guys would be a place just down the road “The Elephant House”. Sound familiar? Here, this may help:

Yes that is right, for those of you who have read the books, this is the place that J.K. Rowling started it all, I do believe the first portions of the books where written on napkins from this place, and yes I am dork enough to have bought a soda. Maybe something shall rub off and I shall be inspired >.< style="">

We went to the Worlds End today. It’s a pub in Edinburgh and it got its name because the city used to be walled. The Worlds End stands exactly where that old wall used to be, and thus to the towns people, it was the end of the world.

We also stopped by the place where the original inspiration for Jekyll and Hyde came from. Unfortunately I do not have that picture right now but I will get one soon. The ironic thing about this place, we learned, is that the guy (his name slips my mind right now) actually designed the gallows that eventually ended his life.

After we finished our hunt, I was out voted so we returned to the Palace instead of going to find another Jekyll and Hyde place, with the promise to return again soon and find it.

When we got home we had a barbeque in Patty (our program director)’s flat. She is staying in the Duchess old suite it was pretty neat to see. The fire place/mantel alone is worth over a million pounds. There is also this window that lifts up and then the wall swings open onto a patio deck thing. I am more than a little jealous.
